M, you are completely right! If you are ever in the mood for a great Pisco Punch in Lima, go to Malabar. Definitely my favorite! They make it with 1 ½ oz quebranta pisco, 1 oz pineapple squares macerated in gum syrup, 2 oz water and 1 ¼ oz lemon (3/4 oz Peruvian lemon), 1 cherry. If you are trying it at home, make sure you chill your glass with a lot of ice before pouring in the mixture. Salud!

i just found out that Pisco was widely used in the West coast in the 1850s, and that the "Pisco Punch" drink was created in San Francisco by Duncan Nicol... andin 1937 was said to be (according to the founder of the New Yorker) ... "In the old days in San Francisco there was a famous drink called Pisco Punch, made from Pisco, a Peruvian brandy... pisco punch used to taste like lemonade but had a kick like vodka, or worse."

Funny, huh? Hopefully Pisco will make its comeback in our lovely San Francisco?
